Junior Sustainability Standards & Certification Coordinator for the Coffee program

The UTZ Standards & Certification Department is responsible for developing the sustainability criteria UTZ CERTIFIED stands for, for managing the UTZ certification program and the monitoring and evaluation activities.

The UTZ codes are voluntary standards that are developed in a transparent, credible and balanced multi-stakeholder approach. As a Sustainability Standards & Certification Junior Coordinator you will support the Standards and Certification team in its work and will gradually take over own responsibilities. Your main focus is on coffee. You handle multiple priorities and deadlines in a very dynamic and international work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement and monitor the international UTZ certification procedures
  • Certificate management: review and assess UTZ certificates and audit reports
  • Participate in the multi-stakeholder dialogue and revision process of UTZ’s sustainable production codes
  • Facilitate local documents for origin countries
  • Participate in sustainability content discussions
  • Assist the Standards and Certification Manager and Standards Director in operational tasks.

The Sustainability Standards & Certification Junior Coordinator reports to the Standards and Certification Manager.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor or MSc in agronomy, environmental science, international development or related
  • Experience or interest in auditing and/or certification and strong understanding of the issues therein
  • Good knowledge of sustainability and agricultural and social standard systems
  • as well as smallholder production systems
  • Interest in the understanding of commodity supply chains and the various needs and interests in market dynamics, experience with multi-stakeholder processes
  • Work experience in (sub)tropical countries and in the development sector is a plus
  • Result oriented, very analytical and a good eye for detail
  • Self-managing team player with excellent intercultural skills. Fluency in verbal and written English and good knowledge (verbal and written) of Spanish. Portuguese, French or Vietnamese is a plus.

Employment is based upon minimum 32 hours/week. Only candidates who have a work & residency permit for the Netherlands/EU can be considered. The position implies close co-operation with partners in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. You should be willing to travel two to three times per year.
